Instructor - Elliot Owens
Instructor Biography - Elliot Owens is a published, award winning photographer recently recognized by his peers for his work in street photography. His photographic journey began in 2010 when he joined the Ridgewood Camera Club. However, with family and career demands taking priority, it wasnt until more recently that he found the time to more fully dedicate himself to his craft. His passion was reignited with a series of trips to Iceland, ultimately leading him to discover his true callingstreet photography.Considering himself a student of the art, Elliot continuously hones his skills and vision through practice, studying the masters, attending workshops, consuming books and videos, connecting with fellow street photographers, and, most importantly, getting out on the streets. His work has taken him to the streets of Rome, Naples, Palermo, Salerno, Paris, London, Reykjavik, and Mexico City. Yet, he believes that New York City, with its energy, diversity, everchanging weather, and relative acceptance of street photographers, remains the ultimate training ground for mastering the craft.
Location - Zoom session on 4/29 and NYC for 10 persons on Sunday, 5/04
Description - Overcome fear and learn a mix of technical skills, artistic vision, and practical strategies for capturing compelling candid street and street portrait images.
Zoom presentation: For those considering meeting in NYC on Sunday, May 4, we will talk about the approach, overcoming concerns. Discussed will be: equipment and camera settings: why they are important for achieving your vision - composition, light, and storytelling: the perfect trifecta.
We will discuss the mindset on the streets: getting into the zone, developing triggers, overcoming fear including tips on how to approach people and how to diffuse any potential conflict.
On Sunday, May 04, 10am - 2:30pm: A practical street shooting session in NYC for the first 10 members who sign up: We will meet and visit 3 -4 different locations with suggested approach discussed at each followed by time to practice the techniques learned.
We are limiting the number of participants in the city to 10 so as not to overwhelm an area or become too conspicuous.
No need to sign up for the Zoom session on 4/29. All members welcome.
