Full Description: For 165 years, the waterfront Brooklyn Navy Yard was a thriving shipbuilding hub. The brick warehouses now host industries like printing, fashion, and furniture, plus a food hall of local vendors, anchored by iconic deli Russ & Daughters. On the rooftops, there’s a farm (in summers) and a winery, while hip locals fill the tasting room at Kings County Distillery. BLDG 92 museum has exhibits on shipbuilding and offers tours. The site, which covers 225.15 acres (91.11 ha), is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Parking inside the Yard is limited. On-street and metered parking are available outside of the Yard on Flushing Avenue and on many of the adjacent streets. Non-metered parking is available underneath the BQE along Park Avenue.
Sands Street Gate: this is where the on-site parking is closest to, so we will enter through this gate.
Entrance is on Navy Street, across from SP+ Parking garage. You can use this address in GPS: 26 Navy St, Brooklyn, NY 11201.
If no parking is available inside the Navy Yard, then you can try SP+ Parking at 303 Sands St, Brooklyn, NY 11201 (corner of Sands and Navy streets).
Other gates to access the Brooklyn Navy Yard:
• Clinton Street gate
• Cumberland Street gate- open 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
• The Clymer (Kent Street) gate – open 5:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday
We will start our visit at the Admiral’s Row. Meeting time is 9:30 am at the Admiral’s Row.
Admirals Row was a row of ten homes formerly used by naval officers, and owned by the National Guard of the United States. The houses were built between 1864 and 1901.
Then we will go over to the LEED Platinum-certified Brooklyn Navy Yard Center Building 92 to visit the art exhibits and installations in Building 92:

The Market @ 77 is a vibrant food hall located on the ground floor of Building 77 in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, located at 141 Flushing Avenue. This culinary destination offers a diverse array of beloved food vendors – some of whom manufacture their wholesale products on-site – offering Market visitors everything from freshly baked bagels with lox to piping hot pizza and delicious tacos.

Then we will walk to Dry Dock Number 1 and see the still-active dry-dock where ships are built and repaired. It is one of six dry docks at the yard, was completed in 1851 and is listed as a New York City designated landmark.
After that, next will be Building 293, where there is the “Wallabout Wonderland Holiday Market” (open 12-5 pm)

Before we leave, at 3 pm, we will attend the Distillery tour at Kings County Distillery is at 299 Sands St at the Gatehouses at the entrance to the Brooklyn Navy Yard close to where we parked. It is the oldest whiskey distillery in New York City since prohibition! We will take a tour of the Distillery and have a tasting, while learning about their process from milling, mashing, fermenting, and distilling then enter their barrel room for a tasting of some of their core products. It is at 3 pm and takes 45 min. And there are max 28 people allowed (same as the number of members signed up for this fieldtrip). Full Description: The Sandy Hook Lighthouse is the oldest operating lighthouse in the United States. It is located at the northern end of the Sandy Hook Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area in the Highlands. Amazingly well-preserved, this unique octagonal tower dates back to the 18th century and has been in service since 1764. Except for being darkened during the Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War I and II, the beacon has been operating ever since.
